Local government exists to serve and protect the people who live and work here first and foremost.  I want to use my extensive city management experience to establish good policies that can be implemented by skilled staff for the benefit of all residents and businesses of South Lake Tahoe. I believe in a resident-centered and business-friendly local government that is fiscally responsible and deals with the real and pressing issues facing the city.  I will ask the tough questions, get answers, work collaboratively to develop a strategy, and get things done. I will always remember that my first duty is to serve the people who live here.  Email me your concerns at:  djinkens4council2022@gmail.com

 LIST OF ISSUES

IF ELECTED, MY OVERALL FOCUS FOR SOUTH LAKE TAHOE WILL BE THE FOLLOWING:
ROADS, ROADS, ROADS
  • Fix and maintain the streets now and maintain them on an annual basis. City government needs to budget money as a priority to repair city streets when damage occurs, not wait. The repairs must be done every year.

  • Do you know of a pothole or a road that is in severe disrepair? Email me at:djinkens4council2022@gmail.com.  I will work on your behalf to get it addressed.

NO NEW TAXES

Our residents and businesses are strapped with this poor national economy and high inflation.  They are taxed enough.

LIVE WITHIN OUR MEANS

I propose we spend monies on the main and urgent issues. The City Council must set priorities for the expenditure of available funds and spend available monies on the highest priorities. If everything is important, nothing is important.

HOUSING

Support and preserve quality workforce housing and develop programs to help people make needed safety repairs to their homes.  The development and maintenance of workforce housing must be a high priority so that people can afford to live here. Housing for our workforce must come first when addressing housing needs.

FINISH THE HOLE IN THE GROUND

We need to work with the owners to finish this project and there are programs available to assist in this goal.  The hole has been there too long. We need to focus on motivating owners to get it done.

FIRE SAFETY & PROTECTING THE COMMUNITY

The City Council needs to take a strong role in fire safety in and around our city limits. The CTC and USFS need to make their lots in the city limits fire safe. Getting along with these agencies is good as long as they get the job needed done. We also need to ensure that water suppliers have an adequate and sustained supply of water for fire protection.

The City Council must energetically support policies and take actions to protect our environment, Lake, and people from pollution whether it be from microplastics, lead, radiation or algae. Saying we can’t do anything about it is poor leadership and not proper governance.

LISTEN

If elected, I pledge to listen to our locals, business owners, and residents when they come before the city council with their concerns. It is the city council’s duty to listen and try to help address concerns if and when they arise. Residents' requests for help should never be ignored.

WE CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND OUR ENVIRONMENT.
